Critic Says “The Sea Inside” About Others’ Death It is based on the real-life story of Ramón Sampedro (played by Javier Bardem), who was left quadriplegic after a diving accident, and his 28-year campaign in support of euthanasia and the right to end his life. Chinese critic “Gentlemen L” (L君) said “The Sea Inside” (Spanish: Mar adentro) is about other people’s death. The writer said, Ramón is a sober person and that he is optimistic and open. However, he continues to say he is living without any dignity, the writer added. In the film, Ramón stressed that his want to end his life is a personal matter. His helplessness and loss of dignity doesn’t reflect opinion of other physically-disabled, the writer said. The writer said, We have absolute independence to make every choice as individuals, including death. He wrote, I am only a mayfly among many, I work hard for “Value of Life” but I dare not defy the “Value of Death”.
