Cutting Edge by Martijn Rigters Not an entirely new concept but effective all the same, Rigters employed a hot wire to create experimental forms resulting in irregular shaped seating. Using a large block or rectangular expanded polystyrene foam, the Royal Academy of Art graduate cut various forms using a wooden frame and a makeshift hot-wire silhouette. With this method, the user is able to create their own bespoke sofa. According to Rigters, the method allows every ‘intuitive movement of the user’ to be directly translated into the shape.
