DARIYE CARPETS JANG OVER ASSEMBLY MEMBERS By Shabul Mazadu Former governor of Plateau State and now senator representing Plateau Central Senatorial District, Chief Joshua Dariye, carpets Governor Jang over the non-payment of the gratuity of the former 14 House of Assembly members that withstood the emergency rule imposed on the state, and the illegal impeachment when he was a governor. Speaking at the burial service of former member representing Pankshin North in the Plateau State House of Assembly during the fifth republic, Hon Gambo Nbilamut, Dariye lamented that, haven fought vehemently for the enthronement of democracy, Nbilamut died without being paid his gratuity by the Jang administration. The Senator further asserted, the legislators stood for the course of democracy by not supporting the emergency rule and giving in to the illegal impeachment meted to him in government by then power blocs in Abuja which Jang gave his blessings, but renounced the calls for the imposition of the emergency rule on his (Jang) led administration when the state was undergoing civil unrests, thus exonerating the former legislators’ stance. To buttress his facts, Dariye said, “Plateau belongs to all of us, and we are supposed to be our brothers’ keeper and not to be polarized by disparity in political affiliations to deprive others from their entitlements for what ever reason. Jang has no genuine reason for not paying them their entitlements. Those in his camp should tell him to pay them as it is righteousness to do so.” Testifying about the deceased, Khawuun Mushere, eulogized the late Gambo Nbilamut, as a dogged fighter for democracy along side other thirteen members of the House during his term of office. He said, “Nbilamut was a political guru and colossus that paid his dues in the enthronement of viable and vibrant democratic culture on the Plateau. “He along with other patriots led by Rt. Hon Simon Lalong doggedly fought against imposition of the emergency rule on the Plateau and the illegal impeachment. His name shall be engraved in gold when the history of our dear state is written.” Shading light on why he did not support the calls for the imposition of the emergency rule on the Jang Administration during the crises period, Dariye said, Plateau State is greater than any individual likewise its interest. According to him, he did not support the emergency rule because of the enormous negative impact it will have on the state, and as a former governor and its victim, he will ensure that he defends the state against it. “Emergency rule began and ended with me. There will no more be any imposition of the emergency rule and the suspension of democratic structures again in Plateau State,” he posited.
