DARJEELING, SEPTEMBER 30, 2013 (The Himalayan Beacon): “Special Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jawed Shawmim has said that the news of alleged rape that surfaced on the 28th of September 2013 in the outskirts of Darjeeling was a hoax and that it has been authenticated by the family members of the victim. It was at best a proposal bid gone horribly wrong. Addressing the members of media at his office in Darjeeling yesterday, IGP Shawmim said that the accused constable was enamored by the victim. He further said that the accused was immediately arrested after the report was filed. He said that the police cadres especially of the Central Reserve Police Force and the Rapid Action Force had been in the hills for months and that there had been no such incidents and that the relation between the police and the people were amicable. Sadly, this incident though very unfortunate was blown out of proportion and used by some political parties to destabilize peace in the hills once again.” (aaa Lu - Javed Shawmim means to say – the molestation report was all a lie and the culprit did not molest the underage but was “enamored” of her)…..
