DEEP VALLEY (1947) Directed by Jean Negulesco. With Ida Lupino, Dane Clark, Wayne Morris, Fay Bainter. I just watched this film from my WB library. I saw it screened years ago at the art museum, and enjoy it every time I see it., An atmospheric melodrama, set in the mountains of northern California. It’s shot very effectively in a very film noir style, with even some hints of German Expressionism. Visually it’s quite impressive. Director Jean Negulesco was a real life artist and I am a big fan of his work. One can see in his films his artistry. He effectively uses that talent. . Deep Valley is a rather obscure movie that is well worth seeking out. Ida Lupinos final film under her WB contract.
