DOG TRAINING TIPS FROM MAREE FIELD Puppy Preschool Attending Puppy Preschool with your new puppy and members of the family is a good place to start with the education of your new four- footed friend. Early socialisation and training means you can teach the new puppy desirable and appropriate behaviours – instead of having to retrain and undo “naughty” behaviours. Socialisation is about being able to meet other dogs, greet different people and cope with a variety of environments with different noises and various visual stimuli. It is wise to find a variety of rewards for your puppy to be stimulated by: Different Food Treats. Playing with a Toy Verbal Praise. A Pat An Activity Puppies will learn quicker if they are rewarded for learning new behaviours. Remember to keep your training sessions short and make them lots of fun. The good habits you teach now will stay with the puppy for life! Check in next week for more Training Tips from Maree! BIOGRAPHY 2013 : MAREE FIELD – Dog Trainer. Maree Field has been training dogs for over 20 years.Maree is the Head Trainer and Coordinator at the V.I.P. Petfoods Dog Club – which is in its 10th year of operation. She is also the Dog Trainer at the Australian Outback Spectacular – where her 2 Border Collies- Mutley and Raastus appear in the Show – “The Spirit of The Horse.” Mutley is nearly 12 years old. He has been deaf for 3 ½ years - but is still the main “Dog Star” at the Australian Outback Spectacular Show. He retired from competition in August 2013 after winning both the Advanced Freestyle and Advanced Heelwork to Music categories at the 2013 Royal. Mutley holds “Championship Titles” in both Freestyle and Heelwork to Music. He was the first dog in Queensland to receive a “Dances with Dogs” Championship Title. Maree and Mutley both performed a Freestyle Routine with Justice Crew at the closing of the World Dog Games in Sydney in October 2009. They have performed Freestyle Routines by invitation from renowned trainer Steve Austin - opening Corporate Conferences and Seminars. Maree and Mutley both appeared in the Finals of Australia’s Got Talent in 2009. They were the first “dog act” to make it this far in the competition- and held that record until 2013. Raastus – a 6 year old Border Collie is also a “dancing dog”. He competes at the advanced level of both Freestyle and Heelwork to Music. Raastus is a real “Diva” and his first love is Dock Diving where he won the Junior section at the recent Nationals in October 2013 - with a jump of 12’9”. He is getting ready to compete in Agility and loves performing in the Show at The Australian Outback Spectacular located on Queensland’s Gold Coast. MacDougal – a 9 year old Jack Russell Cross. - has his own 30 minute show – “Dougal’s Antics!” He recently appeared on stage with Farmer Dave at the 2013 Gold Coast Animal and Pet Expo. Dougal has done 4 stage plays at the Gold Coast Arts Centre & appeared in numerous Children’s TV Shows and Commercials.He has just added Treibball to his achievements and is a real little star in this Canine Sport. Maree also works with Mozart – another 6 year old Border Collie. Mozzie appeared in a play at the Gold Coast Arts Centre in 2010. He played the role of ”Blackie” in Annie – The Musical. He won a “Palm Award” for this performance for a “Magic Moment in Theatre” Mozzie also competes at the Intermediate level of Freestyle and Heelwork to Music. Maree is an experienced trainer in many different disciplines. She is also a Judge for “Dances with Dogs” which includes Freestyle and Heelwork to Music. Her passion for dog training is infectious and she takes great pride and enthusiasm in sharing her knowledge.
