DOUBLE TAP IF YOU LOVE HIIT TRAINING! For those of you who are unsure, HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training! HIIT is a popular form of exercise that combines two of the most effective fat-burning methods: (1) Maximum effort to achieve muscle fatigue, and (2) Maximum oxygen use in a quick burst of exercise! The harder your muscles work, the more oxygen (O2) they require! In fact, VO2 Max is the highest amount of oxygen consumed by your body during exercise! If you work your body close to VO2 Max that triggers what’s known as the afterburn effect! The afterburn effect is incredible because it results in your body continuing to consume O2 for hours (~48) after the workout is over! More O2 consumption = greater total calorie burn! So, how exactly do you create a HIIT workout? It’s easy! You can make them up on the spot! You just need to alternate periods of intense effort with periods of moderate-to-low effort. In the video above I chose to alternate my workout with box jumps (intense effort) to reverse push-ups (moderate effort) to box jumps with a step down (intense effort) to military push-ups (moderate-to-low effort)! THE POINT: Try incorporating a HIIT workout ~2-4 times into your weekly routine, especially if you are looking for fat loss through cardio! Interval training boosts your metabolism significantly longer than a steady workout of an even longer length AND it also builds lean muscle tissue faster than steady state training! Plus, it’s so much fun! I know you all LOVE to get to work at the gym, let’s just be smart about it!
