Daily Devotion by Raul Ries WEDNESDAY January 7, 2015 Victory is God’s Then Saul was very angry, and the saying displeased him; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed only thousands. Now what more can he havebut the kingdom?” 1 Samuel 18:8 Saul was very angry, he was seething with jealousy. When he took credit for Jonathan’s victory, it was alright, but now David was getting credit for his victory and Saul could not stand it. He had to be the center of attention. He had to be the conquering hero. He sounds like a little boy having a temper tantrum. If he could not be the center of attention, he did not want anyone else to be lifted up. Saul was a grown man, the leader of the nation of Israel, and he was acting like an insecure little boy. It is important to recognize the insecurity under Saul’s anger and over reaction. Samuel had already told him God was no longer with him. Samuel told him he was no longer the true king of Israel. With all of these thoughts in his head, the people lifted David higher than him after the battle. Saul was starting to see the handwriting on the wall. His days were numbered. As we serve the Lord, there will be times God will give us the victory and other times when He will use someone else, maybe even a friend. We are called to serve together, shoulder to shoulder. We do not take the credit, so there is no room for anger or jealousy. When you serve with others who have the anointing of the Lord, the victory is God’s. There is no more dangerous moment in our lives than that which follows a great victory. ~Stephen Olford~
