Daily Tele reporting on the imminent influx of millions of cheap foreign workers - just primed for a project like the proposal in the broadwater. Jobs? What jobs? Jobs we tells ya! 36,000 jobs!!! Well, that figure has turned out to be one huge dud lie, perpetuated by a select few in order to deceive the public right before a critical public consultation and newspoll survey. How convenient. The real figure is closer to a few hundred, maybe even one thousand or so jobs if were lucky during the 15-year construction period, that is according to the actual projections from the proponents. With ASF consortiums construction companies having similar resort projects overseas using bulk and cheap in-house Chinese workers to form the basis of their operation - at times reaching a staggering ratio of up to 8 foreign workers to every 1 local worker - its not leaving much room for the average Broadbeach bricky or Tallai tiler. To have any reasonable faith that there could be a lot of jobs, and that jobs for Gold Coasters is the main reasoning for Tom Tate and our selection of complicit councillors to facilitate the loss and privatisation of the broadwater, is nothing short of complete and utter crap. If this citys leaders were serious about jobs for locals, theyd be rapidly broadening our scope and diversifying our citys revenue streams to be less reliant on the mono-facet, seasonal and often fickle tourism train - really investing time and energy into things like education, IT, ecotourism, research, micro economies, science, the arts, film and television, and more - as well as fantastic sustainable and commercial tourism ventures across our citys vast stretches of undeveloped and suitable commercial spaces and locations. Instead our Mayor has pinned our future to a lame donkey, bet all of our chips on the one diabolical race, attached us all to his faux-Vegas fantasy and is preying this donkey can keep up with the thoroughbreds. Wisdom from Tom? In this case, it would certainly seem a very long way away. dailytelegraph.au/news/work-visa-numbers-tipped-to-rise-by-millions/story-fnii5smt-1227013347329
