Dara Shikoh eldest son of Shah Jahan . Dara devoted much effort towards finding a common mystical language between Islam and Hinduism. Towards this goal he completed the translation of 50 Upanishads from its original Sanskrit into Persian in 1657 so it could be read by Muslim scholars. His translation is often called Sirr-e-Akbar (The Greatest Mystery), His most famous work, Majma-ul-Bahrain (The Confluence of the Two Seas), was also devoted to a revelation of the mystical and pluralistic affinities between Sufic and Vedantic speculation. DARA SHIKOH & SIKHISM: Dara shikoh was very close to the 7th Sikh Guru , Guru Har Rai. A convocation of nobles and clergy, called by Aurangzeb declared DARA SHIKOH an APOSTATE from ISLAM. He was murdered by assassins on the night of August 30, 1659. When the assassins delivered DARASHIKOHS SEVERED HEAD to Aurangzeb who scornfully said, Ugh, I wouldnt look at that UNBELIEVER in the face while he was alive and I wont now. Afterwards, Aurangzeb sent Daras head in a box to the imprisoned Shah Jahan in Agra.
