Darlings, here is my weekly blog-A Toast to New Orleans:Darlings, Bless those Saints! I could not believe what happened in the last few seconds of their game against New England on Sunday. I already was celebrating and toasting to the Saints when it happened. I am praying that the Saints move on and regain their victorious track. Geaux Saints. GO! Have I told you how much I love autumn? With glorious blue skies and weather, I attended some awesome soirees that lighted up my life and made it very memorable. I started my week on Wednesday by hosting the October s Royal Sonesta Round Table Luncheon. It was, as many guests said - The Best! What made it so special was the caliber of the featured speakers, as well as the international and local performers of the Jefferson Performing Arts Society’s Pasta & Puccini fundraiser. Authors Susan Larson, Poppy Tooker and James A Cobb were very informative and entertaining. Italian tenor Fillipo Pina Castiglioni, soprano Micah Desonier, and tenor Thomas Irwin along with Donna Clavijo on piano accompaniment and Maestro Dennis Assaf delighted the audience with their performances. Octobers Royal Sonesta Round Table Luncheon That night I was honored, along with veteran media personalities, Peggy Scott Laborde, Nicondra Norwood, Renette Dejoie Hall, Maria Muro, Margaret Orr, Angela Hill, Sally-Ann Roberts, and Nell Nolan at The Childhood and Family Learning Foundation’s (CFLF) annual Gala. The fundraising event, spearheaded by founder Phyllis Landrieu, was fabulous, as was the setting at the exquisite mansion of Fred and Jennifer Heebe on St. Charles Avenue. Margarita Bergens photo. 2013 Childhood & Family Learning Foundation Gala On Friday night, I stopped briefly by the sold-out black-tie World Trade Centers Annual Gala that presented the Eugene Schrieber Award to U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu who, in absentia, was represented by her parents Hon. Moon and Verna Landrieu. Photo Photo Photo The highlight of my evening was the annual 2013 Jefferson Performance Art Societys Pasta and Puccini 2013 Head Dress Gala at the Marriott. As always, the elegant fundraiser was spectacular and very entertaining. This annual black-tie fundraiser included cocktails, dinner and live and silent auctions. Proceeds benefit the award-winning performances and outreach programs of JPAS, including children’s programming, opera, chorale, symphony, theater and more. The evening was highlighted by the first Head Dress Ball with fabulous head dress designs modeled by local celebrities, as well as an elegant seated dinner, complimentary cocktail hour, dancing and a concert by the JPAS Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Dennis G. Assaf with international and local vocalists. Talented Ronnie Kole was a special guest and he captivated the audience with his piano performance. Margarita Bergens photo. Jefferson Performing Art Society s Pasta and Puccini Darlings, besides working at Casell-Bergen Gallery, I found the energy to attend a lovely intimate evening with Wynton Marsalis, multi Grammy Award-winner and 1997 Armstrong Jazz Camp artist-in-residence at the home of The Honorable Michael and Madlyn Bagneris. The soiree by the New Orleans Arts and Cultural Host Committee celebrated the Louis Satchmo Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp’s 20th Anniversary and the announcement kickoff and Scholarship Campaign. Music was by the talented Louis Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp Students. I had the honor of being one of the STARS. The delicious food and libations made it a very memorable one!Margarita Bergens photo. Parkway Partners Feast with the Stars 2013 .h Since I had missed the Friday night opening of New Orleans Operas production of Heinrich Marschners nineteenth century romantic opera, “Der Vampyr,” (The Vampire), at the Mahalia Jackson Theater, I made it to the Sunday matinee in full costume. I loved it and the scenery of New Orleans was fantastic. Talented baritone Ivan Griffin was part of the cast and was dashing. He will be performing at the upcoming Round Table Luncheon on Wednesday, November 20. At our November Round Table, we will be celebrating the spirit of “Thanks-Giving.” The luncheon will take place in the elegant Fleur de Lis Suite located inside the hotel on the main lobby level..
