Day 10 of 30 days of prayer for the Muslim world. The Afar people - TopicsExpress

Day 10 of 30 days of prayer for the Muslim world. The Afar people once were a proud people, who were dominated by no one and feared for their fighting spirit by everyone. The Afar people inhabit, originaly one of the hottest areas in the world, the Ethiopian lowlands and the coastal region of Eritrea and Djibouti in the Horn of Africa. Fewer and fewer of the 2.5 million Afar traditionally live as camel and goat shepperds. Work and recognition drove many to the cities. Now they live there abandoned and without hope in the slums or in extreme poverty in the country. For centuries they were a Muslim nation, but now they have fallen back into their old belief in ghosts and are haunted by fears. God is for them a dreaded judge. Over the past four years, some of the Afar understood the call of God to take the message of the love of the Savior and bring it to their own people. We see the beginning of a living community arise. The Afar Christians are persecuted but they have found their hope in Christ and refuse to give it up. 1 John 5:14, This is the assurance we have in approaching God: yhat if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. -Pray that God gives them courage to share their faith, and that they recognize their identity in the salvation of Jesus salvation. -Pray that God opens a door to the Afar women to reach them with the gospel, they are harder to reach. -Pray that the audio version of the Bible comes quickly in their language so that those who are illiterate hear the gospel. source; open Doors
