Day 12: I am thankful for my grandma, Millie, who instilled within - TopicsExpress

Day 12: I am thankful for my grandma, Millie, who instilled within me, a love for creating things from the heart. I clearly remember sitting with her (at about age 7 or 8 ), knitting my first scarf in a very, very ugly green yarn... constantly splitting the stitches with my needles. Grandma, there are too many stitches now... I would tell her after every other row.... and with that, she would gently take the knitting from my hands, fix it for me.. and allow me to continue on... without the slightest bit of criticizing... just allowing me to learn by watching her model, and through my own experience (hey, at least I was counting! ;) ) I was much too young back then to appreciate what she was teaching me (out through the bunny hole, run around the tree....), and it was not until many many years later, when my dear friend Jennifer was about to have her first child, that I decided it was time to pick it up again. Grandma, I am sorry you never got to see me finally get the knack of it... but I am always thankful for all the times I spent on your couch, next to you, either trying to knit, watching you knit, or playing with the seemingly endless balls of yarn. :) I hope, one day, that I will be able to knit as beautifully and flawlessly as you did, and that I will be able to pass that love down the same way you did for me.
