Day 22 - We have had a great day today. Finally the Vancomycin is clearing her system, and her fevers are down. She continues to run a low grade fever, but the rigor has resolved and the nausea is improving. Her platelet and hemoglobin level were up enough today that she did not require a transfusion. This is the first day in several days that she did not require a transfusion. We are learning to be thankful for even the smallest of victories. Blood cultures were negative for any growth, so it appears that the bacterial infection is gone and the fevers were a side effect of the Vancomycin. Allies physician told us today that she will remain hospitalized on antibiotics until her white blood cell count improves. Last Friday we accomplished our first step in her recovery. The second step is for her white blood cell count to return to normal, so we can proceed with her treatment plan and eventually have the bone marrow transplant later this year. Please pray for a blanket of protection over Allie while her white blood cell count is returning to normal. She will be at a greater risk of developing an infection during this time. We anticipate this should occur over the next 1-3 weeks. Just a reminder that Janet Remis is our contact at OBI. Her e-mail is [email protected]. Thank you to everyone who has already donated red blood cells, and platelets. We appreciate you!!
