Day 25 . . . Christmas with White Sox Our final road day - TopicsExpress

Day 25 . . . Christmas with White Sox Our final road day started with late breakfast at a barbecue wings pub around the corner from where we were staying. And before we get into trouble for breakfast in a pub, I point out we declined the beer special and opted for soda water. Finally on the road, we drove the interstates through to Chicago, our last destination of the trip. The hotel upgraded us to the top floor suit ( must have seen the luggage we have ) and the car was returned. A train ride to the south side of Chicago ( wasnt there a song . . . Is sure there is a song . . . ) to help spend Christmas in July with the Chicago White Sox. We are fond of free giveaways, and tonight we scored big. As we entered we were given black Adam Eaton t-shirts, and after signing up for some promotion, black Chicago White Sox rally-towels ( pretty sure the promotions people wont contact us in Australia next week ). We met Santa, had photos taken, did the obligatory . . . .oh, are you from Australia routine ( now almost as popular as whos on first ) and settled in for the first pitch. The White Sox were hosting Kansas City Royals, the third time in a week we will have watched them, in two different cities, which isnt bad to stalk a team from a city we have never been to ! Come to think of it, last time I watched the White Sox play, in 2008, they were also playing Kansas City. Perhaps its a Wizard of Oz thing. Anyhow, the game started in a blaze of batting, with Chicago hitting safely four times, plus a couple of walks from batters getting hit by pitches, and they were 2-0 up before the first innings ended. Happy Christmas, Chicago. From there, Kansas City slowly clawed their way back, scoring once and getting close a number of times. As has been the case throughout the trip we had excellent seats, and enjoyed all manner of ballpark food. Daniel is particularly fond of Nachos in a baseball helmet, and the ones here were excellent. Ice cream in a helmet is a perennial favourite for dessert, and we have managed a wide collection of these little souvenirs. Chicago scored once more, managed to hold on and record a good win, continuing Daniels winning streak across another game. So far, Daniel has watched the home team win in every game he has watched on tour . . . Im thinking of renting him out to struggling teams for the rest of the summer . . . he points out that this is only karma, as he has sat through hundreds of Cronulla Sharks games and rarely seen them win ! Another excellent night of baseball.
