Day 25: Jesus and Temptation Read Matthew 4:1-11. Even Jesus - TopicsExpress

Day 25: Jesus and Temptation Read Matthew 4:1-11. Even Jesus was tempted. That should make you feel better. Let’s look at how Jesus handled temptation; it will serve as an important part of learning how to handle your own temptation. Jesus was “led by the Spirit into the desert where He was tempted by the devil” (Matthew 4:1-2). Notice it was the Spirit who led Jesus into the desert, but it was the devil that tempted Him. God does not tempt us. He will, however, allow us to be tempted. Jesus was tempted at a time when He was physically and emotionally weak. I have learned to take extra precaution when I am sick, tired, or both. It is in these moments it seems we are more vulnerable to temptation. And be sure the enemy knows that. Jesus answered temptation with scripture. It is the Word of God that helps us in times of difficulty. Read it. Meditate on it. Memorize it. Does it surprise you Satan answered back with scripture? This should be a reminder that we need to study, search, and know God’s Word. The enemy will incorrectly use, twist, and pervert God’s Word in an attempt to defeat us. A friend used to remind me, “You don’t have to memorize scripture, but remember the enemy has.” Temptation only lasts so long at a time. Do not be discouraged. Hang on to God. The Lord will always provide a way of escape from whatever it is the enemy throws at you and you will come through stronger for the battle. However, the enemy will be back at “an opportune time” (Luke 4:13). You can be sure the enemy will return. We are never beyond temptation. Christians need to be aware and alert of attacks from the enemy. Christians do not have to live in fear of Satan. When we are redeemed by Jesus, we are totally redeemed. However, we do need to remember that we’re not home yet. There’s a word for people who think they are beyond temptation: victim. Don’t be one. Enjoy. What do I want to say to God today? What is God saying to me today?
