Day 31 with Glinda: It is hard to imagine how much joy a puppy brings into a home without experiencing it. I mourned so deeply when we lost our Penny (black lab) that I never ever thought I could love another dog. Glinda has proven me wrong in spades! She is a complete joy to have around. I love walking in the door and being greeted with a wagging tail and puppy kisses, no matter the troubles of the day, they disappear into a brown blur of happiness and unconditional love. House training is pretty much behind us and she has finally quit eating like she got out of lock up. The big obstacle now is making her understand that Fiona is a 100+ in human years and isn’t interested in playing with her. Glinda thinks that Fiona is a giant play toy and Fiona thinks that Glinda is the devil incarnate. Glinda tries very hard to be friends with Fiona – but BOOM BOOM Mancini-Kitty (thank god she is declawed) gives her the smack down at every attempt. My poor elderly girl has taken up residence in the dining room, the one place Glinda is not allowed to go. Fiona knows as soon as she hears the kennel door that she is once again FREE to roam the house. It’s quite funny actually. At precisely 7pm every night Fiona caterwauls until I put Glinda in her kennel so that Fiona can have her 30 minutes to eat in peace. The cat has an incredible internal clock and will boss me around until the puppy is safely behind the cage door. Fiona still gets a lot of one on one time with us, I just wish there would be some sort of break through between the two. Glinda has discovered the horses at the back of the property and goes back there every day to “play” through the fence with the big black one. They lick each other’s noses and genuinely seem to enjoy the interaction with one another. It’s so cute watching Glinda “discover” each new thing, she is just so darned adorable and smart! I cannot wait to see what she does next….
