Dear Family and Friends, I pray that this letter finds you and your family well. I am now preparing for my 2nd Mission Trip to New Orleans, LA with the Junior High (6th, 7th and 8th) Ministry at Chase Oaks Church in Plano, TX. God has given me this opportunity to mentor our youth, but also to join Him in His work there. On July 14th, I will be departing on a mission trip to the 9th Ward in New Orleans, LA for 7 days. After Hurricane Katrina hit in August of 2005, Chase Oaks Church has regularly formed mission trips to physically and spiritually help minster to those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Until you actually step on the ground in New Orleans and speak to the people there do you realize what an impact these events had on this community. Last time I had the chance to speak with many people, two who impacted me profoundly. One was the principal at a local school. She told me something, I had a hard time comprehending, most of the schools affected re-opened 4 years after the hurricane hit. In most cases the students that did come back, were four years behind on everything. Four years without school!!! Can you imagine what an impact this had? The other was a gentleman I met at a homeless shelter in downtown New Orleans. He reminded me of myself. We talked about jobs we had, our kids, places we’d been, he was just down on his luck. We think our life is so in order, then we meet someone similar to us and we realize how quickly things can change. The trip is being funded entirely through donations and by those going on the mission trip. Donations collected will be used for travel to and from, lodging, meals and supplies for the projects we will be working on in New Orleans. I am excited about the opportunity to serve and to minister, and I ask you to join me in ministry. I am seeking your support and prayers for this mission trip.
