Dear Gareth Cliff, I was alerted, earlier today to a tweet you made questioning who paid or Senzo Meyiwas funeral. Vuyo Yekani retorted by asking who pays for official funerals and you told him that Argentina would not do same for Messi whom you insinuated was better than Meyiwa. I posted a few days ago that white South Africans make the reconciliation agenda much more difficult than it is supposed to be and here you come proving me right. Where do I start? I assume you consider yourself an African, given that you were born on this beautiful continent. I do consider you to be an African, for the record. Like any other people of the world, Africans have norms, customs and traditions. We also happen to be a constitutional country governed by the rule of law. It is taboo, in African culture to speak ill of the departed, especially before they are laid to rest. Your comparison of Senzo to Messi, whilst demeaning the star goal keeper in the process, is insulting, hurting and disrespectful. Here is a nation in mourning over the loss of a national hero and you deem it fit to label him mediocre, using standards only known to yourself. For the record, again, Senzo captained the National Team and kept three consecutive clean sheets on duty, which put us on the brink of qualifying for AFCON for the first time in many years. This is the same man who, through his heroics, took Pirates to the final of the continental club finals. Is he a hero to us the ordinary folk who cannot afford the price of cricket tickets? Yes!!! Is that why we were so devastated at his untimely passing? Yea, again!!! Why? He gave hope to millions of young South African youngsters and promised us pride as a Nation. I mentioned that we are a constitutional democracy. One of the legal stipulations in our constitution is that past Presidents and Deputy Presidents will receive certain benefits which us, ordinary folk are not entitled to. Did you ever protest that FW De Klerk, despite having been an active administrator of apartheid has state sponsored security office and staff? The government continues to pay for those benefits despite the fact that he does very little, if any at all, in terms of promoting national reconciliation. Laws of this country, for your information, also gives the President powers to declare funerals as official state functions and the state pays with no apology owed to anyone. Gareth, white people like you believe that this country owes them. You think you are superior tax payers who are entitled to a louder voice than others. We have seen this attitude manifest itself in many disguises. If you are not objecting to the development of low cost housing for the poor in opportune areas, you object to a Muslim Mosque in a residential area. You are no different from that fellow Malema should have moered in Tzaneen. I am a tax payer and I am proud that my government used my tax to honour a national hero. Please try and understand my point. It is rather important and you must internalise everything I say. You are South Africans and we regard you as such. We declared in 1955, long before you were born, that South Africa belongs to all who live in it, you included. Why are you working so hard to disprove this assertion? Despite being screwed in the worst possible way, black South Africans have extended a hand of friendship and you keep spitting on it. Why? What do you stand to gain? Our leadership has preached reconciliation, but it is not at every and any cost. We have been denied our right to self dignity for centuaries and we are a generation that will not tolerate disrespect for Africans. Ask PW Botha, if he can hear you in his grave. White South Africans do not speak African languages and even go out of their way to spit on our culture. How dare you insult Senzo before he is even buried. If you think Leo Messi is superior and better, why dont you migrate to Argetina or Spain. We can do much better and achieve our goals of national reconciliation without you. Yes this post has racial inuendos (sp) and I do not regret it. It is about time white South Africans recognise that the black majority has suppressed its anger in the hope of your type changing their attitude. If you want to continue living in Africa, learn of the traditions and customs. Appreciate its beauty and talents. If you believe we are a doomed corrupt continent follow your ilk to Australia. They left in 94 and our country is still standing. You can push a people so far and not any further! Racial tension is simmering because of people like you. We are not going to be apologetic about being free and having a black Captain for we died for this freedom. It was not delivered by your uncle or aunt. We are, unfortunately, not going to be apologetic for living in a free constitutional democracy. If this was a publicity stunt to boost your failing radio career, bad move. I have never listened to your show and urge others never to tune in. You are an embarrassment to our country and you ought to be embarrassed of your comments. Patriotically yours,
