Dear Government of the Maldives, President Yameen and Health Minister Nazim and everyone else telling us not make this political. Basic function of a responsible government is to provide core amenities for the people, including right to food, right to health, right to shelter and also, importantly, right to clean water and sanitation. This government through its own incompetence and bad management has failed to realise and respect even these most basic human rights. If politics is not about about governance and if politics is not about fighting for those basic rights, including clean water, then what is politics good for? If the citizens cannot demand these rights, then of what use is their citizenship? I call myself a politician. This is precisely why I call myself a politician. To fight for those rights, to vote for those rights, to legislate for those rights. So please do not ask me to not make this political.
