Debate The ultimate failure of nihilism is its ultimate - TopicsExpress

Debate The ultimate failure of nihilism is its ultimate dependence on naked assertion without factual basis, the mother of positivism. You cant say with confidence that everything is nothing or that everything is meaningless except positivistically, because of the simple fact that you might be wrong. Im not talking about a trite you can never say never self-contradiction; Im talking about praxis. In fact, in real life, faced with the apparent incoherence and senselessness of a random or insane universe, at the line where apprehension becomes *committed decision that leads to action*, in order to overcome the possibility that I am mistaken, that the incoherence and senselessness and insanity are mine, even that they might not be endemic and permanent but might in fact be coincidental and curable, I must *by fiat* declare myself right. I must violate both nihilism itself and the skepticism that led me to that juncture. In this way, if we stay loyal to skepticism instead of betraying it at the final moment, skepticism turns on itself, eats its own trail, and saves us from nihilistic madness. Agree?
