Deputy PM Hai asks stakeholders to complete the project on schedule. (VGP) Nhan Dan Online – Deputy Prime Minister, Hoang Trung Hai has urged Ho Chi Minh authorities and contractors to work together more closely to ensure the progress of the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien urban railway line in Ho Chi Minh City. Deputy PM Hai and officials of relevant ministries and agencies made a field trip to inspect progress on August 6. Highlighting the importance of the project to the development of the city’s integration and economic growth, Deputy PM Hai asked stakeholders to deploy all means to complete the project on schedule. The Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien route is 19.7km long, with 2.6km running underground. The remaining sections and another 11 stations will be constructed above ground. The line will run through districts 1, 2, 9, Binh Thanh and Thu Duc in Ho Chi Minh City and parts of Di An district in neighbouring Binh Duong province. The city’s urban railway system has a total investment of over 236 billion JPY (equivalent to VND47 trillion). The route is expected to begin operation on a trial basis in 2019 before becoming fully operational in 2020.
