Despicable. Thats the first word that came to my mind when PM Najib Razak announced at the current Umno general assembly that the Sedition Act will remain. This is his biggest flip-flop ever. And the worst. Who can ever trust him now? He promised in 2012 that he would repeal the Sedition Act and replace it with the National Harmony Act, but he has broken his promise. Janji tidak ditepati. What do we do with PMs who break their promises? He obviously gave in to the right-wingers and extremists who have sounded louder than anyone else because they have been shouting hatespeak. One wonders if this was all part of the act to keep the Act. This U-turn shows that Najib is truly weak as Umno leader and is apparently giving in to save his own bacon. Now Mahathir will be pacified. There will be no more threat to Najibs position. The questions about 1MDB will not be asked at the assembly. Perhaps not ever again by Mahathir anywhere. Shame on Najib. He has shown he doesnt have it in him to be prime minister, only the instinct to stay in power.
