Despite Fall In Oil Price, Delta Economy ‘ll Remain Strong-Uduaghan Despite the current nose-diving of oil prices in the international oil market, the Delta State government has assured that the state economy will still remain economically viable as it has put in place economic mercenaries to cushion the effect. The State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan who stated this yesterday in Asaba while declaring open a one-day export promotion workshop, said that part of the mercenaries are anchored on the Delta Beyond Oil programme of the state which he noted was designed to diversify the state economy by developing the non-oil sector. Represented by the state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Chris Ekiyor at the workshop organized by the Benin Zonal Office of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Governor Uduaghan explained that the current nose-diving of prices of oil in the international oil market was a reminder that the economic salvation of the Nigerian state depends largely on massive development and promotion of the non-oil export sub-sector. To this end, the state governor noted that the state government has since provided economic leeway which among others, included robust synergy between it, the Bank of Industry and organized Private Sector in enhancing agricultural production such as cassava, tomatoes, fish, plantain, yam, among others. Further he said, “Currently, four fish feed mills, six cassava processing mills for the production of garri, starch, chips and pellets are in advanced stages across the state”. While urging stakeholders in the export business to continually improve their knowledge of export business, Governor Uduaghan said the state government is committed to harnessing and promoting solid minerals in the state. Earlier, the controller, Benin Zonal Office of the NEPC, Mrs. Uduak Etokowoh harping on the import of the theme of the workshop, “Packaging and Labeling Agro-Allied Products For Export, The Way Forward, stressed the need for Nigerians to embrace export as sure way in the diversification of the nation’s economy beyond oil.
