Despite everyones insistence that it was racial; it was not racial. At 7:09 P.M. Trayvon Martin was spotted by George Zimmerman (a Hispanic, NOT WHITE guy who was also the head of the neighborhood watch; licensed to carry a concealed weapon.) Trayvon had a hoody on, covering most of his body and was peeking into windows of houses as he passed. The neighborhood he was in was where his dad had just recently moved in with his girlfriend (So George would not have known them yet) The neighborhood was gated and had a recent string of robberies so any suspicious behavior was being closely watched. Zimmerman called out to him asking him what he was doing there. Trayvon ignored him and told his friend who he was on the phone with at the time that he was being watched by a "Creepy Ass Cracker, who "apparently wanted to die that night" George called the cops and indicated this guy was acting shady; threatened him and wouldnt tell him why he was there, with his hand in his waistband and such, therefore possibly armed. After the 911 call George went to walk back to his car since the cops were on their way, presumingly mad about the cops being called on him, Trayvon jumped George and began punching him in the face, bashing Zimmermans head against the pavement. Several witnesses testified to this and said so in the 911 tapes. George is heard in most of them screaming or help. Zimmerman said he was losing consciousness and decided he had to use his gun. He shot Trayvon and he died. What is confusing is people saying that it wasnt Zimmermans business why he was in the neighborhood and he shouldnt have even followed him prior to calling 911. Zimmerman had every right to ask why someone was, for all he knew, trespassing in his gated neighborhood at night. They said Trayvon attacked George out of "fear for his life" However he did this merely feet from his dads girlfriends front door. He could have ran inside, or just told Zimmerman that his dad was staying there and so he was going there too. It could have ended there but it went further. Its tragic that Trayvon lost his life but I do not think his death was intentional. I dont think Zimmerman wanted to kill him, I think it tortures him everyday knowing he was the cause of death for another person. At the same time I think he did it when he thought his life was in danger.
