Despite what Gen Ata Hasnain has to say, I think things are on a dangerous simmer in Kashmir and it is something which is worth paying attention to. For the valley is turning away from Sufism to Salafism for a while now. And given the happenings in Iraq and Afghanistan, the valley could well be a tinderbox awaiting a spark. The biggest challenge in Kashmir is sheer number of youth who dont have a direction to creatively vent themselves, or seek a meaningful occupation. And if they tried, the militants wouldnt allow. Trying to put more steel on a pressure cooker only makes for a more explosive situation, but doesnt reduce the boil.
