Detectives from the Fraud and Cybercrime Squad have charged a woman in relation to frauds totalling more than $36 million. In August last year, detectives established Strike Force Canget to investigate the business activities of a smash repair business at Kirrawee, in Sydney’s south. Police will allege that fraudulent work invoices had been created for a total of $36,889,704, with 10 victims identified. Earlier today (Wednesday 21 August 2013), a 67-year-old woman was arrested when she attended Sutherland Police Station. Fraud and Cybercrime Squad detectives charged her with: • 5 x obtain money etc by deception > $15,000; • 9 x dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception; • 10 x knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime; and • 1 x knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime with intent to conceal. She was granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on 19 September 2013. Inquiries are continuing.
