Did you ever wonder why people used to call the Atlantic Beach - TopicsExpress

Did you ever wonder why people used to call the Atlantic Beach Circle the Board Walk? Well here is the answer in a picture taken in the 1920s. I bet you didnt see any thongs or string bikinis in those days! (LOL). And I would also bet that things were unusually quiet and the board walk deserted on Sunday mornings and into the day. Fishing was the main industry in those days, although there were plenty outlying farms that produced produce. When you have to transport both commodities you have to have warehouses, trucks, salesmen, farm equipment, boat supplies and equipment, etc. As progress developed and transportation became more available, then tourism increased. And why not? Morehead City, Atlantic Beach, and the surrounding areas have always been so beautiful. Unfortunately, with more and more tourist building condos, and huge businesses scarfing up beach land for hotels and tourist attractions, our maritime forest and wet lands began to disappear. Sand dunes and sea oats are seen less and less. Success brings with it a price of sacrifice.
