Digs at the Western Naval Command For a cartoonist, there are - TopicsExpress

Digs at the Western Naval Command For a cartoonist, there are no sacred cows. Naval Dockyard managers saw officers posted to the Command as playboys who had a gala time, while they slogged in the sun and rain. No wonder, the Western Naval Command was fair game to the Dockyards Mario. Two things riled us. The first, was the occasional signal declaring Sunday routine (day off) for Command only. The dockyard had to work normal working hours. This happened a couple of times during my tenure and upset us no end. The second was frequent alteration to docking schedules and ship movements, mandated by the mandarins at WNC. They played havoc with our personal plans. Sometimes, we had to wait till the last minute for a decision. It meant changing dock blocks and schedules and working late hours to get the docks ready. I expressed our pet peeves in these cartoons. Please see the cartoon in full screen to see the finer details. You can see my signature at the bottom of one of the cartoons. It is a tribute to the bosses that I still got my fourth stripe.
