Dispatch from The City ~ Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run: City Hall, May 27th, at 9 a.m. for Peace Ceremony & Peace-Blossom Dedication The Sri Chinmoy (shree-chin-moy) Oneness-Home Peace Run peacerun.org will be headed north from Santa Fe on Hwy 84/285 on Tuesday, 5/27/14, after a 9 a.m. Peace Ceremony and Dedication at City Hall (east entrance). Santa Fe will join over 800 global Sri Chinmoy Peace-Blossoms as a Peace-Blossom Capital City. Peace-Blossoms include: Mt. Everest, Mt. Fuji, Taj Mahal and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and Sydney Opera House; plus 13 national capitals such as Ottawa, Canada. Mayor Pro-Tem Councilor Ives will read out Mayor Javier Gonzales’ Proclamation, welcome Peace Runners and dedicate the City of Holy Faith a Sri Chinmoy Peace-Blossom Capital City. Santa Fe Sage Inn will also become a Peace-Blossom Inn this same morning, after having graciously hosted runners overnight. On May 25, 2000 then Gov. Gary Johnson proclaimed New Mexico a Sri Chinmoy Peace State. So continues City’s peaceful steps. Since 1987 when NBC-TV’s Today Show Katie Couric interviewed founder Sri Chinmoy (1931-2007) at the launch of Peace Run, the world’s largest biennial relay run has covered over 140 countries on seven continents—and touched millions in expressing humanity’s core aspiration for a more peaceful, caring world. World leaders who have held The Peace Torch include: Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul II, President Nelson Mandela and his wife, Mdm. Graça Machel. Olympian Carl Lewis is spokesperson for Peace Run. Sport legends such as Billie Jean King and Muhammad Ali have also shown their support for Peace Run. The University of New Mexico Libraries honored Sri Chinmoy’s Golden Jubilee on April 24, 2014. Heeding an inner call, he came to America from his native India in 1964 to serve humanity’s aspiring heart. Sri Chinmoy’s creative endeavors in literature, music, art, sport and humanitarian service strive to inspire people to bring forth their best qualities. Team runners hail from: Australia, Czech Republic, Indonesia, New Zealand, Russia and U.S., including Arpan DeAngelo of New York City.
