Division 3 Preview SAAFL© MITCHAM’S season appears to be - TopicsExpress

Division 3 Preview SAAFL© MITCHAM’S season appears to be over after a disappointing performance against Athelstone. A 6 goal to 1 opening stanza did the Hawks no favours and were simply playing catch up from there on. This week will be another challenge for Mitcham, facing rival and undefeated Unley Mercedes Jets. The Jets had a training run against Kilburn, keeping a clean sheet and scoring heavily. Having the firepower of Stephen White and Nick Wark up forward makes the Jets a dangerous proposition, whilst their midfield and defence continue to impress. These contests usually are close, however, on this occasion, Unley will assert their dominance and record a resounding victory. Plympton and Athelstone have plenty to play for on the weekend, a place in the top 5. Not many would have expected Athelstone to be vying for a finals berth after the way they started the season, whilst Plympton began their 2014 campaign well but have since been inconsistent. A win is a must for both sides with the loser, back amongst the pack trying to snare that illustrious fifth position. On the back of two consecutive losses, Old Ignatians are fighting to retain a place in the top 5. Their assignment this week will be their biggest test of character yet, as they face Seaton Ramblers. The Ramblers unexpectedly lost to Pembroke Old Scholars and will be eager to bounce back. Rambler forwards Damien Hynes and Korey Loechal were well held by the Kings defence, however, don’t have two quiet games in a row which will concern Iggies back 6. This a must win game for Old Ignatians, who could find themselves outside the top 5 if result’s don’t go their way, however, Seaton’s goal kicking prowess will see them record a comfortable victory. The remainder of round 12 looms as one sided contests as Modbury host Salisbury and fourth placed Pembroke Old Scholars travel to Kilburn. On a three game winning streak the Hawks will be hoping to extend it to four but will wary of the wounded Magpies. Acquiescent of relegation Salisbury will be hopeful of recording a few more victories before the season’s end. With a top 2 position on the line, Modbury will win and win comprehensively. Pembroke Old Scholars can cement a top 4 spot with a win over Kilburn. Failing to score again, the Chics struggled against Unley Mercedes and a similar result looms as a likely outcome once again. When these sides clashed in round 3, Tom Evan booted 23 goals and the Kings won by 436 points, hopefully for Kilburn’s sake the margin is far less but based on current form, Pembroke will win by plenty.
