Do not attempt self rescue. Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Here at Littlehampton Coastgurd we have numerous incidents of people attempting to rescue their dogs from the river Arun, and often get into difficulties themselves. It is also common for boats to get stuck on the sand bar at the river mouth and for people onboard to get out of their vessel to attempt to get it free. This is extremely dangerous and can go wrong in an instant. Always call 999 and ask for the coastguard, or use VHF channel 16. We are #alwaysoncall and happy to help.
