Does it matter if the next James Bond is black? It’s a debate sparked by one of the hacked Sony emails: ‘Idris Elba should be the next Bond’ the head of Sony Pictures reportedly wrote. As absurd as casting George Clooney as Barack Obama, said right-wing commentator Rush Limbaugh, adding ‘Bond is white. Bond was never black’. Elba himself once said he’d like to play the role but for his skin colour not to be the main topic of conversation. Do you care about your favourite fictional character’s skin colour?
