Dover Intermediate School participated in a number of veteran-related service projects in recognition of Veterans Day. Social Studies teacher John Gast’s sixth graders collected more than 500 personal grooming items for displaced Cleveland-area veterans in partnership with the Homeless Outreach Program at the Cleveland Department of Veterans Affairs. This was the school’s third annual Veteran’s Day Toiletries Drive. Students collected baby wipes, diapers, laundry detergent and new winter clothing for displaced families. Parent volunteers also assisted with making fleece blankets in science teacher Darlene Fossesco’s and intervention specialist Julie Milkie’s homeroom. Jessica Dye’s Language Arts classes participated in Key Bank’s Holiday Cards for Heroes program. Students completed more than 1,000 holiday cards that will be sent to active service members this holiday season.
