Dubai International Peace Convention 2014 Honors Heads and Members of Organizing Committees • His Excellency Dr Hamad Al Shaibani: “Tribute to efforts that emphasized the UAE’s ability to organize world class mega events” • His Excellency Dr Sultan Bin Mejren: “Convention attracted diverse sections of community” • Dr Omar Al Khateeb: “Important dialogues at various lectures drew over 1,50,000 people over the three-day conference” His Excellency Dr Hamad Al Sheikh Ahmed Al Shaibani, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Dubai International Peace Convention Award, and Sultan Butti Bin Mejren, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Vice Chairman of the Dubai International Peace Convention, awarded the heads and members of the organizing committees of the recently concluded Dubai International Peace Convention at a ceremony in Al Bustan Rotana Hotel.The convention was held from April 17 - 19, 2014 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The event was headlined by leading scholars and clerics from Arab and Muslim countries across the world. Speaking at the ceremony, His Excellency Dr Hamad Al Shaibani said: “I thank His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his patronage and dedication that made this conference possible. The third edition of the convention was an unparalleled success due to its thoughtfully designed agenda that included engaging sessions as well as innovative events and initiatives - reinforcing the UAE’s message and its leading role in promoting world peace.Dr Al Shaibani shared the greetings offered by His Excellency Dr Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais, General President - Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophets Mosque, with the people of the UAE.He commended the premium media coverage that Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) offered for the event. Additionally, Dr Al Shaibani acknowledged the important role of the Scientific Committee in hosting a successful event. Calling upon the team to demonstrate similar dedication to future editions of the Dubai International Peace Convention, he underlined the importance of discussing humanitarian issues at the event to shed light on the true meaning of Islam for future generations. His Excellency Dr Sultan Butti Bin Mejren, Vice President of the Board of Trustees and Vice Chairman of the Dubai International Peace Convention, expressed his satisfaction with the management of the event that drew the participation of more than a 1,000 volunteers, 20% of whom were Emiratis. Appreciating the dedication of the volunteers and their contributions to the event’s success, he pointed out that their efforts reaffirmed Dubai’s ability today to host world class mega events.Dr Bin Mejren expressed the satisfaction of the organizing team at hosting a record number of participants and visitors who could benefit from the lectures delivered by eminent global scholars and clerics including Sheikh Mishari Bin Rashid Afasy, Sheikh Yusuf Estes, Dr Zakir Naik, Sheikh Ismail Bin Musa Mink, Sheikh Mohammad Salah, Sheikh Tawfiq Chowdhury, Sheikh Noman Ali Khan, Sheikh Assem Al Hakim, Sheikh Waleed Bassiouni, Sheikh Abdul Bari Yahya, Sheikh Saeed Raji and Sheikh Ahmed Hamed among others. Dr Mejren thanked DMI for its role as media partner of the Dubai International Peace Convention and the heads and members of organizing committees. Thanking the sponsors including Emaar (platinum sponsors), Lulu Hypermarket (gold sponsors) in addition to silver sponsors Al Rostamani Group, Sharaf DG, UAE Real Estate Solutions, and Dar Al Ber Society, he said their contribution underlines the spirit of collaboration and social solidarity. Strategic partners such as Community Development Authority, The Commission of Insurance Activities and the Dubai World Trade Centre were also acknowledged during the ceremony. Dr Omar Al Khateeb, member of the Board of Trustees ad General Coordinator of the third Dubai International Peace Convention, thanked His Excellency Dr Hamad Al Sheikh Ahmed Al Shaibani and His Excellency Dr Sultan Butti Bin Mejren for the support provided during the convention that registered a global impact.Dr Al Khateeb also recounted the highlights of the event that included sessions such as ‘Call of the Prophets’, ‘Status of women in Islam’, ‘Don’t spread mischief on earth’ and ‘Mohammed is the messenger of God’. He noted that the event helped identify 15 topics for in-depth research by scholars.Commending the event for spreading the virtuous and path-breaking tenets of Islam, he revealed that DIPC 2014 witnessed 26 people converting to Islam during the conference, including the son of Dutch filmmaker Arnaud Van Dorn who changed his name to Ali on the second day of the conference. Dr Al Khateeb said that the attendees of the event received a pleasant surprise during the visit of His Excellency Dr Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais, General President Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophets Mosque, at the closing ceremony. He also said that the presence of Sheikh Mishari Bin Rashid Afasy, Dr Zakir Naik, Sheikh Yusuf Estes and other scholars and preachers raised the profile of the event while the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran on the first day set the right note at the opening of the event. The Dubai International Peace Convention hosted a number of activities such as the Smart Peace Dome, the Scientific Exhibition, Friday prayers, children’s corner and the School Soccer Peace Cup 2014 among others. Taking to social media, the event rolled-out a campaign inviting the global community to pledge for peace.Toward the end of the ceremony, Dr Hamad bin Sultan Al Shaibani bin Mejren honored Emirati journalist Ahmad Zahid from DMI. Bin Murjen recited a poem that he had specially penned for the occasion as a fitting closure to the event.
