During the march from Mendiola to Ayala Bridge, apart from a - TopicsExpress

During the march from Mendiola to Ayala Bridge, apart from a hundred policemen and policewomen blocking us, I noticed all of my mobile networks (Globe, Smart, Sun Cellular) are set on emergency calls only. So I asked around if people are experiencing the same. I even asked the policeman whom I felt was taking pictures of me if his Samsung S5 has signal. Wala (none), he said. So I asked, Paano kayo nagko-communicate? (How do you communicate). Yung mga radio ho (We use the radios), he replied. So lo and behold, communication was shut off along with the ff: 1. I heard Renato Reyes explained to the chief of Manila Police District Station 3 that it was a clear curtailment of the freedom of expression. True enough, this government is going to do absolutely everything to prevent the messages of the poor and the marginalized reach the pope. 2. There is an abuse of power here---government cannot simply shut down public communication. Isnt it unconstitutional? 3. The authorities were clearly harassing the people. Some of the policemen were carrying high powered guns intimidating the workers, peasants, youth, churchworkers, human rights victims and educators who simply want to seek the support of the Pope in advancing social justice in our country. WHY PNOY? MARTIAL LAW NA BA?!
