During the time that 50|50 has been off air, there have been many developments in the fight against rhino poaching. Are we doing enough? Is there hope for our rhinos? These are questions that Bonne tries to answer as she takes a trip around South Africa to rhino poaching hotspots where she talks with the rangers and decision makers that are fighting the war on the ground. With over 800 rhinos killed this year, government are exploring alternative solutions to the problem. One of which is a proposal to legalise a mass sale of our rhino horn stockpile in an attempt to flood the market. Bonne asks minister Edna Molewa to explain the Department of Environmental Affairs motivation for this controversial proposition. We also investigate how the Endangered Wildlife Trust is trying to raise awareness in Asia about the plight of the rhino, in an attempt to decrease the demand for rhino horn. As policy gets debated and demand seems never to cease, there are always the dedicated anti-poaching units, game rangers and forensic teams that are fighting the bloody war on the ground. Bonne joins these teams on their daily activities and is faced with the stark reality of the rhino war as she examines two rhino carcasses with a forensic team. An interview with Maj. Gen. Jooste reveals the enormity of the problem and the different tactics that are being used in this military defense of the rhino. Join us for this much needed rhino update which is sure to satisfy your questions and maybe raise some more. https://youtube/watch?v=5yHkm9hCFCI&feature=share
