The annual Goed Geld Gala of the Dutch Postcode Lottery was held this year in the Royal Theater Carré in Amsterdam. Drs. Geert Vons, General Director Sea Shepherd Netherlands and Captain Alex Cornelissen, Sea Shepherd Global Executive Officer, both attended the Gala. Michiel Verboven, Managing Director of the National Postcode Lottery, presented them both with a check for 900,000 Euros. This year marks the seventh year in which Sea Shepherd receives support from the National Postcode Lottery. Up to date we have received 6.3 million Euros, funds that greatly benefit our global campaigns. 302 million Euros for charity thanks to the Postcode Lottery. An important night for 101 charities. The Postcode Lottery announced they will donate a record amount of 302 million Euros this year. Highlight of the gala every year is the announcement of the Dream Project winner. The Dream Project supports new, brave and innovating project. Projects out of the normal financial reach of the charities. This year’s winners: Peace Parks and World Wildlife Fund. They receive for their project to safe the African Rhino from going extinct, 14.4 million Euros. South African Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu and Prime Minister Rutte of the Netherlands presented the winners with the Dream fund check. The 2.5 million participants that play the lotto make it possible The donation of millions to charity is made possible by the 2.5 million participants that play the lottery. Half of every ticket that is sold goes to charity. Thanks to a growing profit from the lottery, this year almost 12 million Euros more can be donated to the charities. About the National Postcode Lottery – society always wins The National Postcode Lottery was founded in 1989 to support charity. Currently 2.5 million Dutch nationals play the lottery. Monthly they can win hundreds of thousand prices. At the same time the participants support charity because half of all ticket sales get divided over 90 charities. Since the Postcode Lottery was founded, more than four billion Euros were donated to humanitarian and nature causes. Since 2005, the Postcode Lottery is also active in the UK and Sweden, where the People’s Postcode Lottery and the Svenska Postkod Lotteriet, also raise funds for charity. In Holland the National Postcode Lottery work together with the BankGiro Lottery and the Vrienden Lottery forming the Charity Lotteries.
