EARNING YOUR REWARD Normally a gift is not something we have to qualify for but our actions often will determine the reactions of others. Unearned favor is divine. It is rarely, if ever, found on the human level. With that in mind we need to remind ourselves that work always works. Results are not always immediate – sometimes it takes a while for them to materialize. That is precisely why we must keep our eye on the goal and not waver. When you experience a delay the reason can always be traced back to you. You can drive thirty or sixty miles per hour and neither will be automatically wrong but, depending on your goal, one could fall short. Delay and ultimate defeat is never without reason. Focus always pays off. I was about to watch a major football game and I noticed that the one team came running onto the field excited and exuberant. There was no noticeable display of excitement from the opposing team and the final result was very predictable. You’ve probably heard the saying that bad things happen to good people and on occasion that may be possible but for the most part we control the future and bad things are prevented by good people. Two cars crash on a major road and we refer to the incident as an accident. It’s never called an on purpose. Accidents are, for the most part, the result of a lack of attention. Life follows a formula. The results of good luck will be counted in the winner’s bottom line but a true winner never counts on luck. I was watching a Denver Bronco game on T.V. and we were behind by about twenty points. One of my boys walked into the room and asked who was winning. I replied, “we are.” He said, “what’s the score” and when I told him he said “I thought you said we were winning.” I said “WE ARE! You didn’t ask who was ahead – you asked who was winning.” The word `winner’ describes the final result but winning is an attitude and isn’t over until the final bell. A friend of mine was complaining about the treatment he received from a mutual acquaintance. He said “there will come a time when I will have the chance to get even and you better believe that I will.” I said, “did you like the way he treated you?” He said “no.” My reply was “why then would you want to be like him.” Winners have better days ahead – losers have nothing to look forward to. Earning your reward Romans 6:23 …the gift of God is eternal life… One of the greatest gifts that man can know Will always be earned, it can’t be bestowed Hard work will always play out in your favor We must do what’s right and never waver Others may contribute to the success you enjoy But only you can determine the means you employ When you firmly focus on what’s right in every way Success will be mandated and there will be no delay Bad things happen sometimes and they’re hard to take We must not budge from goals that make life take shape A loser will lose long before the end of the game Be the best you can be and you’ll never be ashamed Winning is very important but being a winner is vital Staying your course is important to your very survival Others may do you wrong but don’t you be like them If you do, someone else will be the winner in the end R.L.
