EASTERN BOARD CONVENTION - the 88th eastern board convention - TopicsExpress

EASTERN BOARD CONVENTION - the 88th eastern board convention took place last night in the Roanmore Centre - the newly officers for 2014 are Chairman: Sean O Regan (Kill), Secretary: Seamus Cleere (Mount Sion), Treasurer: John Murphy (Gaultier), PRO: John Sheehan (DLS). - Tim O Byrne stepped down as eastern board secretary and from the board after many years service in a variety of roles. - 3 motions were discussed, 2 which interest our club. Gaultier submitted a motion that the 2014 Junior Football Championship for senior clubs i.e Gaultier, Stradbally, DLS, St Saviours, Kilrossanty etc be played on an all county basis in the same format as the 2014 senior championship, 2 groups of 6 teams with 8 teams qualifying for the knock out stages. - Kill also had a motion that would affect our junior team if passed: the junior championship be split into A & B championships (both eastern & western championships remain), teams would be placed in the A or B championship depending on their performances over the past 3 years. - decisions on these motions and the format of the junior football championships will be decided in the coming weeks at county convention and at the county board meeting to decide on championship formats - the possibility of the under 21 football (and hurling) championship being played on an all county basis (with no eastern or western championships to be played) in 2014 is a very real prospect. If clubs decide they want it to happen then under the terms of the new Waterford County Boards 5 Year Development Plan then it will happen in 2014
