EMBAJADA DE ESPAÑA ----- ABUJA (NIGERIA ) Competition on Nigerian Visual Arts “Dalí: Dreams on Canvas” Rules and Regulations 1. ORGANISATION The competition is organized by the Embassy of Spain in Abuja, with the sponsorship of several Spanish companies present in Nigeria and with the collaboration of the Transcorp-Hilton hotel and the National Gallery of Art, with the aim of promoting young Nigerian artists. The topic for the present edition of the Visual Arts Competition is the commemoration of the 25th years of the death of the famous Spanish artist Dalí. Dalí was one of the major representatives of surrealism, a pictorial movement of the 20th century, characterized by the random reflection of images that create the same impression as the illustrations of what we experience during our dreams. The artists will have to create an original art work based on this movement, following Dalí’s inspiration. The selection of the winner will be based in the aesthetic and technical quality of the art work, its accuracy to the topic and the originality of the interpretation. These Rules & Regulations can be consulted on our Facebook page: [email protected] 2. PARTICIPATION The participation is open to any Nigerian artist under 35 years old as at June 30th 2014. Any technique or media is allowed. Artists wishing to participate must send a scanned picture of the art work they wish to present for the competition to [email protected] and [email protected] . Deadline for submission is August 28th 2014. Any entry submitted after the deadline will not be considered by the organisers. All entries must be accompanied by the following documents: - - A scanned copy of one of the following documents: ID card, passport, driving license, birth certificate. A passport picture (good quality, scanned and, sent by e-mail, Annex 2 completed. By submitting an art work for this contest, the participants authorise the organisers to use the image of the art work and the dissemination of it for promotion in any part of the world. 3. SELECTION OF WINNERS A pre selection of the artists participating at the final competition will be made, at the selection’s panel sole discretion. Artists selected to participate to the final will be informed by the organizers before September 4th. Artists selected to participate to the final will forward their works to one of the offices of the NGA from the annex 1 between the 8th and the 12th of September 2014. The selection panel will be constituted by members of the Embassy of Spain in Abuja and by Nigerian representatives of the Arts. The winner and the consolation prizes will be informed previously and awarded at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja on October 14th 2014. First prize will be a four days full paid trip to Madrid to visit ARCO (25th February-1st March 2015), one of the most important exhibitions on contemporary art all over the world. The consolation prizes will be two painting material batches. The first prize work will remain the property of the Embassy of Spain and can be exhibited anywhere, anytime, in order to make know the talent and creativity of Nigerian painters. The non-awarded works will be returned to the artists through the NGA. 3. PUBLICATION OF RESULTS The identity of the winners will be announced on the day of the awards ceremony and will be publish on our Facebook page: [email protected] 4. ACCEPTANCE OF RULES By the fact of submitting the artworks for display artists warrant that they are sole owners of copyright in their work, and that no other person has any rights in them. Artists will be held responsible vis-à-vis the organizers for any harm, damage or loss arising out of a claim by a third party for breach of copyright.
