ENCOURAGEMENT FOR TODAY! – 08/31/13 – PRESENT YOUR “EMOTIONS” AS A LIVING SACRIFICE… 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 NIV – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: That God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore, Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God! God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” Comments: We are made of three parts: spirit, soul, and body. The new creation part is our spirit; the old has gone, and the new has come. This is from God and He has reconciled us to Himself. One way to understand the spirit is to say it is the part left over after you subtract the body, mind, and the emotions. The soul then is our mind and emotions that have not been changed, but are in need of being renewed. It is our belief that the will is part of our spirit since we have been given a free will to choose whom we will serve. So our spirit is the real us, the life that supplies animation to our soul and body. It is sometimes referred to as the breath of life. Within our soul resides our knowledge base and life experiences; with this understanding, consider once again Romans 12:1-2 NIV – “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.” In other words, as we renew our soul to be in agreement with our new created spirit, we will free ourselves to walk (which is our character) by our new created spirit rather than our carnal senses – walking by faith, not by sight. Our prayer: May it be unto us according to Your word! From my heart to yours, Mike
