ENGLISH VOTES FOR ENGLISH LAWS Regarding all the comments about Scotland running its own affairs while voting on English only legislation it is worth noting that Devolved means that power is only delegated, the real power still remains with Westminster. What Westminster and English politicians know fail to tell the UK is that all decisions taken at the Scottish Parliament have to be ratified by Westminster, the vast majority of which is made up of English MPs. This English veto makes the West Lothian question somewhat ironic. I cant speak for the Welsh or the Northern Irish but I can tell you that SNP members of the Westminster Parliament do not, and never have voted on English only legislation. Moreover the Scots, and the SNP in particular, have always agreed that English legislation should be voted on by English MPs only. Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP do not intend to vote on English only legislation but they do intend to vote on legislation when it will affect Scotland as in NHS, Defence etc. which they are entitled to do How is Who speaks for England going to work? If they devolve powers to a lesser assembly, like the Scotland model it is worth restating that Devolved decisions have to be ratified by Westminster, the vast majority of which is made up of English MPs. This makes the Who speaks for England campaign somewhat a waste of time and all the more ironic as English MPs will still be voting on Scottish only legislation while Scotland and the rest of the UK will have little or no influence on British legislation. Some members of the panel and audience exhibited an extreme English nationalism and xenophobic racism while demanding that England is put first and that the SNP members of Parliament should have no part of a British government despite being democratically elected. Its not just ironic, its a hypocritical double standard.
