EVENING TEA WITH JODY B., Wednesday, December 10, 2014: Those of you who follow my posts on here know that yesterday I was concerned about a foul odor that was coming from Mikes open wound on his foot. I had first noticed the smell last Thursday, and it had seemed to get increasingly stronger so I had made an appointment to take him to Iowa City. That post went out here on FB Tuesday morning. When I changed the dressing on Mikes wound Tuesday morning there was still a strong smell on the dressing. Many people shared on here yesterday that they were praying for our family, for Mike and his health and welfare throughout the day yesterday. When I changed the dressing on Mikes foot at bedtime last night, there was no foul odor coming out of the wound. I still took him to Iowa City today. We arrived at approximately 1:00 PM. We were there until approximately 3:30 PM, and a student doctor, and then Mikes surgeon, looked at the wound and said it looked good. They were slightly concerned about the mottled color of the skin on his foot, but there was no heat in the wound. They sent him down the hall to have an ultrasound on the by-pass surgery they did back in August, and they said he has outstanding blood circulation to the foot. One other thing happened yesterday that is pretty amazing to those of us who witnessed the decline of Mikes ability to use his foot. His left foot had more or less frozen in place. It was no longer mobile. The joint that attaches an ankle to a foot and gives mobility and flexibility when we put our foot on the floor, Mike didnt have that. Suddenly, yesterday, Mike realized he could bend that ankle again. It had gotten increasingly stiffer and stiffer until he had no flex in it at all over a period of 8 years. That joint moves again. Praise God from whom all blessings flow is all I can say. We are supposed to go back to Iowa City the week after Christmas to see Plastic Surgery, but it is with a huge sigh of relief and some jubilation that I share this post tonight. Mike has a prosthetic foot on his right leg. Since his left foot joint was stiff, he needed a walker, and he almost threw his left foot forward to walk. He had to use a walker because he couldnt count on his left foot to do what he needed it to do. It may sound like a baby step while I describe it here, but its actually a huge step I dont have adequate words to describe. Thank you for your prayers on his behalf, on our behalf. Those prayers were answered in a big way yesterday, and I can only say, To God be the glory. Great things he hath done.
