Earlier today, while on my way to town, I came across a convoy of many vehicles, slowly snaking their way out of town in the morning traffic jam... All these vehicles had their head lights on and the lead car was loudly blaring the horn. The vehicles were decorated with balloons and silk ribbons of many colors but pink was the most dominant... A wedding ceremony was in the offing. Obviously. And of course Saturday is the best day for a wedding. I am yet to hear a person getting married on Monday. A church wedding that is... In the convoy, I spotted a sleek Merc, a dominating Volvo, an impressive Jaguar, a humongous Range Rover and a host of other top of the range vehicles... Pretty normal. Weddings are done to impress and whenever possible, intimidate. Weddings are good too. They assuage the soul that people have not yet completely given up on the besieged institution of marriage. But again, marriage and wedding are two painfully different things... But before I could shift my gaze off the wedding convoy, something caught my eyes and I had to pay a closer look at the wedding convoy... There were other types of cars in this wedding convoy too. I spotted a branded Probox car with the logo of a certain driving school. There was a Nissan van belonging to a certain kindergarten school. I saw a tired looking Hilux pick-up garlanded with the colors and logo of a certain firm dealing with animal feeds. All were headed out to this wedding ceremony being held I dont know where... Now, I was very sure that a hearse carrying van belonging to some funeral home would suddenly and sneakily creep up in the convoy. No hearse carrying van crept up. Fortunately. That would have been a blasphemy. How can you attend someones wedding driving a hearse carrying vehicle? Instead a Maruti mini van belonging to a certain supermarket brought up the tail of the convoy... I sighed with relief. Then it occurred to me that most of the top of the range vehicles were being driven by women while the rest of the branded and humble vehicles in the convoy were being driven by men. Aging men... Certainly the demographics of this city have changed radically... Why do I have this nagging feeling that this wedding convoy was headed out to Kiambu County? Eh? I need something strong to keep this cold at bay brethren. Any suggestion as to which liquid can successfully wad off this stubborn baridi apart from a warm glass of milk?
