Earthquake Update: Notable quakes in the last 24 hours. Update: Algerian quake. Update 12:15 UTC : The number of injuries and fatalities is still on the rise. Hospitals in all affected areas of northern Algeria, mainly Algiers, Boumerdes, Blida and Tipasa, reports at least 420 injuries, but only 21 in critical conditions. 6 people died in panic reactions or by heart attacks. The damage was not as severe as it could be, if the epicenter would not be offshore. Nevertheless, several houses suffered major damage with collapsed walls, ceilings and/or balconies. Others developed cracks. There are no reports of completely destroyed houses, even if some families were displaced. It’s not clear if any of the reported injuries is connected to earthquake damage, but it seems that nearly all of them victims of the mass panic. Algeria was shaken by a shallow 5.8 10 kms deep but USGS HAS JUST DOWNGRADED IT TO 5.7. Port Blair, India also received some shaking with the strongest being a 5.8 at a depth of 10 kms also. *** Coronal hole on the sun is Earth facing so we will watch for seismic activity to increase.
