Ekiti APC hails Aregbesola’s victory in Osun “We were used as guinea pig” The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has hailed the victory recorded by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the governorship candidate of the party in the August 9 election in Osun State, describing it as the triumph of right over wrong and a result of the party’s focus, hard work and dedication. Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who retains the governorship seat of Osun State polled 394,684 votes to defeat his closest rival, Senator Iyiola Omisore of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled a total of 292,747. In a release signed by Chief Olajide Awe, Ekiti APC noted that the Aregbe victory did not come easy considering the siege by the federal government on Osun, just like Ekiti. But, according to Awe, it has justified the party’s hues and cries that President Goodluck Jonathan and his goons in the PDP indeed committed political rape on Ekiti in the June 21 governorship election. Chief Awe also shared the belief of Aregbesola that the election was an unnecessarily tense, tortuous and even traumatic one, saying that the federal government, using the instrument of power to muscle the opposition, could only get away with that of Ekiti, which it used as the guinea pig, while we were more prepared for them in Osun having unraveled their devilish tricks. Both the Ekiti and Osun elections were unduly militarized in an unprecedented manner. 30,000 legally and illegally armed men unleashing terror on the innocent electorate whom they described as the President’s enemies was unheard of. The action of the federal government during the two elections, where the progressives predictably hold sway, was thus an affront on the nation’s fledgling democracy. “Jonathan and his PDP thieves used us as a template in Ekiti. We can now see that the PDP could not have won in Ekiti, and didn’t win, but are now laying claims to phantom victory because we failed to anticipate the high jinks like it was the case in Osun that came after ours. We salute the good people of Osun state for standing their grounds despite the excessive militarization, brigandage and bullying by the party at the centre, they stood their ground and ensure victory for the candidate and party of their choice. History is on their side as those who uphold the tenets of democracy in Nigeria. Our words of advice for the PDP goons are that they should not dissipate so much energy on the 2015 general election because they will only labour in vain. They are now on a free fall, beginning with the Osun election and they should not think that the last has been heard regarding the Ekiti rape.
