Eleven days ago dad entered the hospital for spinal surgery. The surgery was to release the compression around his spine, that had been causing numbness in his arms and legs. By all reports the surgery was successful. Since that day it seems everytime there seems to be signs of dad progressing and coming back to Rolla, he goes backwards. Last week the rehab ladies from Phelps County were talking to him about coming to Rolla for the rest of his rehab. We found out less than an hour later he had a heart attack that morning. His memory got worse over the next couple of days and he was diagnosed with delirium. At that time we found out his kidney Creatine levels were to high and they started treating him to bring them back to normal range. The PA from the cardiologist office was recommending that there be no heart cath done during this hospital stay. Yesterday afternoon he was feeling good, his creatine levels were still high but much closer to normal and he was determined to get the therapy done he needed to do to come home. At midnight we get the call he has no feeling in his legs, he is being moved into ICU and they were doing a MRI on the spine with the possibility of emergency surgery to follow the MRI. Thankfully the surgery was not necessary. It appears there is a blood flow problem in the spine that is being treated with medication to keep his blood pressure at or slightly above129. As long as he is on this medication he will have to be monitored in ICU. The have started running a slew of other blood and urine tests today. We know he has a urinary tract infection and that his white count is high. We do not expect other results till later tonight or tomorrow. You my facebook friends, family and loved ones have been an inspiration to me multiple times in the past year. Please keep up your support and prayers as dad goes through this. Above all we know that God has control of all of this and it is his hands. May he give the medical team the wisdom and abilities to do his will with my dad. Thanks so much for letting me ramble and put all of this in perspective.
