Elsie Visel, Vero Beach Letter: Lets not harm lagoon further with expansion of Oslo boat ramp I have lived and voted in Indian River County for 27 years. I am opposed to the expansion of the Oslo boat ramp because it will harm our lagoon. Grant Gilmore, lead scientist at Estuarine, Coastal and Ocean Science Inc., in Vero Beach, has said that the dredging and use by larger boats would destroy some of the last viable sea grass beds in the county and threaten nurseries for four game fish species such as tarpon, snook, red fish and spotted sea trout. Enough is enough. The lagoon has already been in crisis for far too long. The lagoon ecosystem has lost too much sea grass, too many dolphins and brown pelicans and too many endangered manatees.
