Elves are derived from Norse and Germanic mythology. They are beings that are so beautiful they are supernatural and posses abilities (magic) that is godly. However, despite this, they are considered dangerous. Often times depicted bringing harm to humans and causing them suffering, while seducing men with their charms. It wasnt until they were adopted into the more romantic views of fairies that they began to be seen as gentle and fair. This adaptation lead to our popular, everyday view of elves in stories like J.R.R Tolkiens novels The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, as well as in the film Hellboy II : The Golden Army directed by Guillermo del Toro. Though, despite all of these transformations from ancient to modern mythology, they remain to be the fairest of them all.
